The MuniMobile app, developed by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), is the official trip planning and mobile ticketing solution for navigating the Muni transit network. With this app, users can effortlessly purchase and instantly use fares and passes directly on their phones, at any time and anywhere. The app is free to download and requires account creation to get started.

How It Works:

1. Choose your rider type: Adult, Senior/Disabled/Medicare, Youth, or SF Access.
2. Select your fare: Single Trip Fare for Muni Bus & Rail, Single Ride Fare for Cable Car, or Passports.
3. Specify the quantity: You can purchase multiple tickets for later use.
4. Proceed to checkout: Make payment using a debit/credit card, PayPal, or Apple Pay.

Q: Do I need to be connected to the Internet?

A cellular network or wireless Internet connection is required to purchase tickets. However, you can use and activate your tickets offline.

Q: What if my battery dies?

Just like with paper tickets, it is your responsibility to ensure you have a valid fare at all times. Therefore, it is important to plan ahead and have your phone charged.

Important Reminders:

• Activate your ticket before boarding.
• In the subway, activate your mobile ticket before passing through metro station fare gates. Show your active ticket to the station agent and pass through the fare gate closest to the station agent booth. If the station agent is absent, you may still pass through the gate as long as your ticket has been activated. Do not attempt to "tag" the gate.
• On the surface, use your mobile ticket before boarding the vehicle. You may board through any door. If you prefer to show your ticket to the transit operator when boarding through the front door, please feel free to do so.
• For Cable Car, use your mobile ticket once you are on board the vehicle. Show it to the Cable Car conductor.
• Monitor your phone's battery level as you are responsible for having a valid fare at all times, just like with paper tickets.
• Create an account before purchasing tickets as it is the only way to transfer any unused tickets if you switch phones. Please note that only unused tickets can be transferred. Activate and use up any already activated tickets before changing phones.
• Prior to uninstalling the MuniMobile app or erasing your phone, make sure to transfer any unused tickets first. Your tickets are stored on your phone, which allows for their usage even without a cellular network or wireless Internet connection.
